How to spot a dolphin on a open sea

To spot a dolphin at sea, look for a rounded dorsal fin cutting through the sea, clusters of splashes, or the dolphin itself jumping out of the sea.

You could also follow birds, as they often circle and dive where dolphins are feeding, and listen for their characteristic clicks and whistles if you’re close enough.

Dolphins frequently play in the wake of boats, so watching the side or back of a ship can be a good strategy.
